Lend Lease, the global building and construction company that regularly touts its sustainability credentials, wants to build a massive coal port on the Great Barrier Reef -- putting this Australian icon at grave risk.

This project threatens to dredge and dump several million tonnes of waste in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, as well as fuel the climate change that is already decimating the Reef. We can’t let this happen.

On Friday, Lend Lease will hold its Annual General Meeting. If enough of us speak out now, we can deliver our message right to the company’s doorstep. Lend Lease trades on its environmental reputation and has made bold public commitments not to be part of projects that damage the climate -- now we need to show them what’s at stake if they proceed.

Tell Lend Lease to withdraw its proposal and protect the Great Barrier Reef.

The Great Barrier Reef is an Australian icon and already at risk from warming sea temperatures. Extracting and burning more coal from the Galilee Basin will only make this worse and increase the number of ships that pass through this fragile ecosystem.

Lend Lease has worked hard to build a reputation as a responsible company and takes the sustainability of its projects very seriously, but investing in massive coal expansion flies in the face of this. We know the company is seriously considering its involvement and that it cares about its environmental footprint. Lend Lease’s environmental policy reads “we recognise we must reduce our contribution to human induced climate change, and it is our long-term aspiration that all our business operations and all buildings we produce and/or operate are zero net carbon as a minimum”.

Demand Lend Lease withdraw its proposal and protect the Great Barrier Reef.
