In a dramatic turn of events two weeks ago, the EU voted to relicense glyphosate for another 5-years, after Germany's delegates switched their vote at the last minute to side with Monsanto & Co. against millions of Europeans and the cancer warnings of the World Health Organisation
But there's some good news breaking: officials in Italy and France have just announced national bans on glyphosate to be phased in. This could be an opportunity to jumpstart a national ban in the Netherlands too.
The momentum is on our side: if the EU won’t ban glyphosate, we can still get it banned at a national level, country-by-country.
Tell Prime Minister Mark Rutte you want the Netherlands to follow France and Italy’s lead and ban glyphosate now!
We’ve been fighting glyphosate for 2-years now. In that time, through the hard work of our partners and SumOfUs members like you, we convinced 9 countries to oppose renewing the EU licence for glyphosate.
Now, after both France and Italy have said they plan to ban the substance within 3-years, we think it’s high time Prime Minister Mark Rutte listened to the people of the Netherlands and followed suit!
PM Mark Rutte: if the EU won’t do it, it’s up to you -- ban glyphosate in the Netherlands!
Hundreds of thousands of you have got involved in our campaign to ban glyphosate across the EU. With the hard work of SumOfUs members like you, we managed to get the licensing period down from 15-years to 5-years. Thanks to your work, the end of glyphosate is no longer a question of if, but when. With the tide turning against glyphosate, this is our chance to get it banned across Europe -- and that starts with the Netherlands.
