The EU’s about to unveil its new proposal to make our agriculture system healthier for people and the environment. But something’s wrong with it -- and only you can fix it.
As part of the European Green Deal, the EU’s “Farm to Fork” strategy should include ambitious targets for slashing the use of toxic pesticides -- one of the biggest dangers to bees and the rest of our natural world. Getting rid of these poisonous chemicals is the only way to make farming truly green.
But the targets in the current draft are weak, and the agrochemical industry is reportedly hammering the EU to weaken them even further. It’s up to us to step in and stop Bayer, Dow and Syngenta from poisoning our planet past the point of no return.
EU commissioners are accepting feedback on the proposal right now, giving us a short window to make them put toxic pesticides on the chopping block. We’ll put all your signatures and comments together and submit them directly to the Farm to Fork committee -- will you add your voice?
Tell the EU to crack down on pesticides for a farm system that benefits bees, people, and the planet.
Experts have warned us again and again: only a massive reduction in pesticides will revive our vanishing insect populations and bring nature back from the brink of collapse.
We and our friends in the “Save Bees and Farmers” coalition -- a thousands-strong Europe-wide initiative made up of scientists, beekeepers, farmers and citizens including SumOfUs members like you -- are urging the EU to respond by cutting down on 80 percent of toxic pesticide use by 2030, and getting rid of all synthetic pesticides by 2035.
But companies like Bayer, Dow and Syngenta are pushing back, using every trick in the book to keep their poison flowing. They want EU politicians to set targets for pesticide “risk” -- a meaningless measurement that could let them sell the same amount of chemicals while claiming bees and people are safer.
The commissioners responsible for the plan told us they want to know what you think. Here’s your chance to make them set a course for a pesticide-free Europe!
Use our form to send your signature and comments to the EU Commission.
We’ve come so far in our fight to keep bees, people and nature safe from pesticides. Thanks to pressure from SumOfUs members like you, Europe has passed sweeping bans on bee-killing neonicotinoids, brain-damaging chlorpyrifos and other chemicals that posed a danger to bees and humans.
An ambitious green farming plan could be another triumph for people and the planet, but only if you and I act now to make it stronger.
Tell the EU Commission that Europe needs healthy bees and fewer pesticides!
