In our Europe-wide campaign to get glyphosate banned, we’ve got some good news and bad news.
The good news: thanks to pressure from thousands of SumOfUs members like you, the Austrian parliament voted in favour of a resolution that forces the government to say NO to any relicensing of glyphosate.
Now the bad news: despite the Dutch government restricting sales of Monsanto’s RoundUp several years ago, toxic glyphosate-containing herbicides are still widely used in the Netherlands.
That means people in the Netherlands are still at risk from the herbicide, which the World Health Organisation labelled ‘probably carcinogenic’.
Concerns about glyphosate are reaching a breaking point -- but the tone-deaf Dutch government just voted against a crucial motion that would limit the use of glyphosate to a 3-year period.
Will you sign our petition and show them we don’t want to see glyphosate relicensed for another 10-years?
Just last week, the animal-rights PvdD party tabled a motion in the Dutch parliament to limit the use of glyphosate to a 3-year period -- but the government rejected this proposal.
The EU Commission is pushing for a 10-year license for the toxic chemical. A parliamentary vote against glyphosate would have been crucial in pushing through reform at an EU-level -- that’s why this is so important.
Together we’ve created a huge movement to oppose the use of Monsanto’s Roundup -- which contaminates our food, clothing, and even personal hygiene products.
SumOfUs members like you have reached across the world to stand with people resisting Monsanto and other agrochemical giants. Thanks to public pressure and sound science, countries like France, Colombia and Sri Lanka have placed tough restrictions on glyphosate.
We know the agrochemical lobby is powerful -- but we’ve shown that we are too. Tell the Dutch government that it’s time to listen to the people: glyphosate’s time is finally up.
